Poem by Emily Dickinson

1. It was not death, for I stood up,
And all the dead lie down.
It was not night, for all the bells
Put out their tongues for noon.

2. It was not frost, for on my flesh
I felt siroccos crawl,
Nor fire, for just my marble feet
Could keep a chancel cool.

3. And yet it tasted like them all,
The figures I have seen
Set orderly for burial
Reminded me of mine,

4. As if my life were shaven
And fitted to a frame
And could not breathe without a key,
And 'twas like midnight, some,

5. When everything that ticked has stopped
And space stares all around,
Or grisly frosts, first autumn morns,
Repeal the beating ground;

6. But most like chaos, stopless, cool,
Without a chance, or spar,
Or even a report of land
To justify despair.

Greek thinkers 2/4/10

Euclid was a geomatrist.  He was the one invented geomatry.  Hippocrates is the father of medicine he advanced medicine by a lot.  He was the one who stopped going by supersticion and started observing symptoms.  Argametes was the one who dicovered leverage.  He made the quote of "give me a big enough lever and a place to stand and I can move the earth.  Thucydides was a historian.  He recorded the battles of ancient greece.

Athenian democracy 2/4/10

The Athenian people wanted a kind of goverment that was not a tyranny.  The Athenians revolted against their tyrant leader Iagrius.  He and his guard of Hoplites climbed to the top of the acropolis.  There they held out for two days and two nights, but on the third day an angry mob of Athenian citizens killed them.  The Athenians had exiled a man named Cleisthenes before they over through their leader.  The Athenians brought him back and asked him to make them a fair kind of goverment.  He made the democracy and the simplesystem of voting.  The voting process was to put pebbles in a jar.  A black pebble for no or a white pebble for yes.

One of the many events that led to the pellapenesian wars was the attack of the Persians.  After the Greeks led by the Spartans drove off the Persians the Spartans led the Pelonnesian league.  Later when a Athenian leader took over they took power.  When the Athenians rose in power the Spartans backed away.  The athenians then instigated the Spartans to war by attacking cities friendly to Sparta.

Current Events: Snowman Economics 1/27/10

Source: CNN Student News

Today on CNN Student News one of the reporters used building a snowman as an example for building the economy. The reporter was trying to fix a snowman named Jeff. Unfortunately for Jeff, the snow was too powdery. The reporter got some other people to help him, and they got a bucket with some water in the bottom. They put the snow in the bucket with the water and the snow became more slushy and sticky, and they fixed Jeff.
The reporter used the analogy of Jeff being the economy. The people had to look at the snow and change the snow to make it different to be able to fix Jeff. Jeff is like the economy because people had to look at things in different ways and make changes to fix him and the same goes for the economy.
I think it was funny that they used a snowman named Jeff to represent the economy. I think it was a good analogy.

Tomb 10A

My impression of the 10a mummy exhibit is that it was awesome.  The head was probably the best part of the exhibit.  The kenopic jar in the exhibit had the head of a human and feet.
The museum was pretty cool.  I really liked the Greek exhibit we visited.  I would like go back and see the other Egyptian art.
I think that if we ever go to the Boston museum of science it will be just as fun as the MFA.  The boats in the tomb were amazing.  I especially liked the military arrow ship armed with a wotcha.

Ian Littlefield

My Name 1/7/2010

My name is Ian Holt Littlefield. The origin of my first name is Scottish. My middle name is of Olde English origin. My last name was started by Sir William Littlefield. His coat of arms was a bird with an ear of wheat in its beak.

My names all have different meanings. My first name is Scottish for John which means “God is kind and merciful,” My last name means “Small pasture,” My middle name means “On a wooded hill,”

My names don’t really remind me of anything. I like my name because it’s short and easy to say. When people try to get my attention sometimes I don’t hear them say my name.
